Massachusetts Car Insurance Requirements

Coverage Minimum - 20/40/5

Coverage Explanation - Car insurance coverage in Massachusetts must provide a minimum of $20,000 for injury liability for one person in an accident, $40,000 for all injuries in an accident, and $5,000 for property damage in an accident.

Other compulsory insurance coverage:

  • Personal injury protection - Pays up to $8,000 to you, passengers, pedestrians or anyone you allow to drive your vehicle
  • Bodily injury caused by an uninsured auto - Minimum $20,000 per person, $40,000 per accident

1. Motorists in the MA state, are required to buy and maintain a liability insurance policy.
