| Being denied
service because of your race, color, religion, national
origin, sex, marital status, age, familial status, or
handicap is against the law. You are granted protection
against this type of mistreatment by the Equal Credit
Opportunity Act (ECOA) and the Fair Housing Act (FHA).
Under the acts, a lender must provide an individual with
a justified reason for being denied the loan within 30
days of applying. They also can not set different terms
or provisions based on race, color, religion, national
origin, sex, marital status, age, familial status, or
handicap.
If your lender asks you questions in regards to your
health, family or otherwise, that do not directly affect
your loan, you have the right not to answer them. You
can also report their actions if you feel you are a victim
of discrimination.
